Legacy High School has partnered with Cromaine Library on a “Great Stories Club” grant

Legacy High School has partnered with Cromaine Library on a “Great Stories Club” grant from the American Library Association. The theme is “Hack the Feed: Media, Resistance, Revolution.”    Students in Mrs. Waske’s 6th hour have been working with Carolyn McCullough, Cromaine’s teen librarian, to explore three books: FEED by M. T. Anderson, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and MARCH: Book One by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell. Goals of the “Great Stories Club” grant include engaging youth facing difficult circumstances with powerful works of young adult literature, encouraging empathy through peer-based discussion groups, establishing important connections among at-risk youth, their public library, and their local librarian, and contributing to improved literacy and changed, positive attitudes toward reading.

Additionally, Legacy teachers Ms. VanHoorelbeke and Mrs. Waske have received full funding for two classroom projects through Donors Choose that will support environmental science and technology.
